How to Prepare Your Home for Winter in Florida

Winter is right around the corner and it makes for some of the best weather in Florida. Luckily, Tampa only has a handful of really cold days but, you should still be prepared and have your home ready to keep you, your family, and your home happy when it gets chilly.

Tip One:

Change your Air Filter- each TLR Community supplies all residents with a free air filter each month. Take advantage of this and have a fresh filter to start the season. Make sure you know what size you need, check your unit, and head down to the office to pick up your new filter.

Tip Two:

Turn your heater on- the chances are that your heat hasn’t been ran since last Winter, ensure that it is working by turning it on today. It will smell like there’s a small fire in your home but that is pretty normal; simply open the window and let it air out of your home. While the heat is running, place your hand in front of the vent to ensure that it’s blowing warm air. If warm air is not coming out, please put in a work order.

 Tip Three:

Check your windows and sliding glass doors for air leaks- just like in Summer, it is important to ensure that your windows have a tight seal against the frame. If you feel a temperature difference, please put in a work order.

 Tip Four:

Reverse your fan blades- did you know that your ceiling fan can be reversed to push the warm air down instead of cold air? Help keep your home warm by flicking the switch on your fan to reverse the direction and keep the hot air down low and a more consistent temperature throughout the home.

 Tip Five:

Reach out to the office- if you have any questions about preparing your home for winter or the upcoming weather, feel free to reach out to your leasing office for assistance.

Enjoy the cool and inviting Florida Winter!

How to Prepare Your Apartment for a Florida Summer

Summer is finally here- everyone loves the season because the sun is shining, school is out, days are long, and the weather is beautiful. Florida Summers bring sunshine and a lot of it, TLR Group has provided some tips and tricks that you can follow to ensure that your home is prepared for the season.

Air Conditioning

A/C is crucial to living comfortably during the Summer. Fortunately, all of TLR Group’s communities offer complimentary A/C filters to all residents each month. Make sure that you swing by the leasing office to pick up your filter each month to keep your unit running cool and smooth all Summer long.

Windows

Sunshine is a wonderful thing, but it also causes temperatures in your home to rise. You can easily keep your home a few degrees cooler and make your A/C have an easier job by simply closing your blinds and curtains to keep the hot sun out. Additionally, check all of your windows and sliding glass doors for air leaks. Run your hand along the edge of the window and door frames, if you feel a temperature difference, then put in a work order and a member of the maintenance team will be out to ensure that your cold air stays in and the hot air stays out.

Ceiling Fans

Everyone loves ceiling fans to keep the air circulating and they help keep your home cool. Before your ceiling fan Is working overtime, take the time to dust each blade to ensure that the fan is clean. Dust on the blades leads to the motor being overworked, using more energy, and not being as effective.

Summer Storms

Summer brings great weather but, Florida also has Thunderstorms, Tropical Storms, and potentially Hurricanes during the Summer which can really dampen your fun. It is a good idea to have battery-powered lights from lamps to headlamps so if you lose power, you are able to still see in your home. You should also have a rechargeable battery pack so that you can charge your phone and other electronic devices. Water is the most important thing to have. In case your water gets turned off, it’s a good idea to have a case of water bottles on hand to keep you hydrated in the event of losing water. It is also a great idea to have nonperishable foods such as granola bars, nuts, dried fruits/ vegetables, and other items that you can keep in your pantry just in case you lose power, and you don’t want to be opening up your fridge and losing the cold that is left.

If you have any questions about preparing your home for Summer, please reach out to your leasing office and they will be happy to give you more tips and tricks to make your home ready for the season.
